Dr. William Romine

Dr. Romine is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences, with a secondary appointment at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, at Wright State University. Dr. Romine’s research focuses on measurement of human performance in the context of the learning and health sciences.  Dr. Romine and his students employ Rasch models, wearable sensors, and text mining to understand how we learn and make decisions about science and health.  Dr. Romine’s current research focuses on development of a sensor-based application for automated monitoring of cognitive flow, mental effort, and fatigue which is derived from consumer off the shelf wearables.  Dr. Romine also works with teams around the world to develop strategies for measuring higher-order thinking constructs, including argumentation and socioscientific reasoning, within innovative science education contexts.  Dr. Romine’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Education, and the Institute of Educational Sciences.  He is currently serving as Associate Editor for the Journal of Research in Science Teaching. Dr. Romine’s research program supports diverse experiences for students at all academic levels. These experiences prepare students for data science positions in both academic and industry.
